E Ala Voyaging Academy is a Native Hawaiian 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization serving the Waiʻanae community and Hawaiʻi since 2014. E Ala waʻa, a 45ft double-hulled canoe, was constructed in 1981 and birthed out of Pōkaʻī, Waiʻanae in 1982. The hālau waʻa and non-profit organization was established in 2014 to help promote our traditional voyaging practices through innovative applications in todayʻs society.
Past, Present, Future
Finding Home
In order to understand the present and make a plan for the future, we must look to our past.
E Ala Voyaging Academy is currently partnering with schools along the Leeward coast. The purpose is to connect students back to their cultural past, identify connections in their present learning, and create a plan for their future.
Our Kuleana
Furthering our cause is the most important goal of our organization. We seek to support, empower, and provide high quality cultural resources to the Leeward community. Our success isn’t measured in terms of wealth or profit margin, but by the value we provide to those we serve. Learn more about what we do below.
